James B. Benjamin , M.D.
Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Total Joint Replacement
Dr. Benjamin is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery. He has lived in Tucson since 1968, attending the University of Arizona for both undergraduate and medical school. After completing his orthopedic surgical training, Dr. Benjamin completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery in Exeter, England with Professor Robin Ling, one of the pioneers of total hip replacement.
Dr. Benjamin has been involved in education throughout his career. He has been honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award seven times by the Orthopedic Surgery Resident Training program at the University of Arizona. His commitment to education extends to both the public and professional community. He has made numerous presentations at national and international meetings and is the author of over 50 scientific articles related to the field of orthopedics.
In addition to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, he is a member of the Knee Society, and the American Association for Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Benjamin has served as president of the Tucson Orthopedic Association and the Western Trauma Association and been on the board of directors of the Arizona Orthopedic Association.
Dr Benjamin performs total hip and knee replacement and unicompartmental knee replacement using minimally invasive techniques (MIS). In addition he performs computer assisted total knee replacement (CAS). Although these techniques are not appropriate for all patients they can be used in a majority of cases.
